PRAYERS

Dear Jesus, I know there are many different careers and jobs that all are possibilities for me, so I am asking You to help me see what it is You want me to do with my life.

I think I am feeling a call to follow and serve You. Help me to understand whether this call is for me to be a priest or a brother or to be a married person or a single person.

Each call is holy and important, and I pray that I will recognize the touch of Your hand moving and guiding me toward the choice that will be best for me.

Help me to say with Mary, our Blessed Mother, “I am the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.” Amen.

Lord, I thank you for the gifts You have given me, especially the gifts of life, love, family and friends.

Help me to know myself better and to know my talents as I pray, study and decide on my life’s work.

Help me to see and understand the path You open for me.

Help me choose a life’s work that will be in response to my potential and Your love for me.

Give me a generous heart to respond to your challenging call and the strength to follow you wherever you lead me. Amen.

Jesus, You show us that an open heart finds the way.

Help me to find my way in this world.

Keep my heart open to following Your way of serving
others in love.

Give me the courage to accept the guidance you offer me
through my family, my friends and my parish community.

Through the Holy Spirit, you call me to a particular way of
life. If it is the way of a priest,
help me to walk it in joyful service to your people.

With you, Jesus, I know I can find my way.
Amen.

Lord, here I am!

What would you like me to
do with my life?

(Pause to listen for a moment.)

Teach me to do your
will, Lord.

And let your Holy Spirit
guide me! Amen.

Jesus, I know you love me and are calling me to do something special with my life.

Help me to listen to your call in all the ways that you speak to me: through prayer, through You in the Eucharist, through those who love and care for me, especially my parents, and through my own hopes.

Guide me to search openly and learn about life’s choices, so that I may respond to your call and choose the vocation and career that will enable me to love wholeheartedly and to serve others with the special gifts that you have given me.

I thank You for Your love and for all that Your gift of life holds for me. Amen.

Lord, You share with me the gifts of life and faith. You call me to use these gifts to make You known and loved in our world.

Be with me, Lord, and help me to know the vocation that You want me to follow in life. Give me the grace of Your Holy Spirit to follow your call and courage – to a vocation of Christian service. Help me accept the challenge of a vocation of care and concern for others.

Help me, Lord, to hear Your call and to respond in faith and love. Amen.

Meditation: Thoughts in Solitude by Thomas Merton

My Lord God
I have no idea where I am going
I do not see the road ahead of me
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself. And the fact that I think I am following Your will
does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please You does in fact please You.
And I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire
And I know that if I do this You will lead me by the right road, though I may
know nothing about it.
Therefore, I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death, I will not fear for you are always with me and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Prayers to Share with Your Parents

Thank You, Lord, for all the many great and wonderful gifts you give to our family. Help us to live each day with joy and humility. Keep us totally dedicated to serving You.

Teach us to recognize the many ways You make Your Spirit known. Then help each of us to accept Your gift.

Give us the grace to help guide our child to answer Your call to a life of service in Your Church. Amen.

Heavenly Father, in the example of the Holy Family, You teach us how to live as a loving family.

From Jesus, Mary and Joseph, we learn that You have given each of us a special place in Your plans for the world.

Each of us has a call – a vocation – to be holy as a married or single person, or as a priest, a deacon or a religious brother or sister.

Make us a kind and understanding family so that we will help one another discover his or her vocation and follow it faithfully.

With Mary and Joseph, we ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
